I live in Portimao and, without a car, I had to take the last FlixBus to Faro. After spending some time in the city, I arrived at the airport around 1:40 AM, my flight is at 6 am. Unfortunately, almost nothing was open at that time, and the only available options were vending machines. The waiting areas were crowded with people sleeping around, and the seating options were uncomfortable, with only metal chairs or the floor to sit or sleep on. If you have a late-night or early-morning flight, I would recommend spending as much time elsewhere before coming to the airport unless you're okay with the less-than-ideal seating and lack of amenities until your boarding time.
One of the worst airports in Europe. Waiting in queues for no reason. When you land you will have a long walk around the airport until get to the exit. Same way to board. The worst lounges I have ever been to. All flights delayed and according to the airlines it was their responsibility. The Airport was closed for arrivals and departures. It should be called Terminal Faro not Airport!
Faro airport is one of my favourite, however the recent passport control [especially outbound] is a nightmare. Make sure you arrive hours before your flight as the queues are very long. I was concerned I might miss my flight as it was so slow. Limited egates open doesn't help. Other airport facilities and rental car park pick up is pretty efficient. Good views from various perimeter locations.
We had a bad experience at this airport, and it was just as frustrating. The lack of organisation at passport control was shocking. After a long flight, we ended up waiting in a hot and chaotic queue for what felt like an eternity. There were so few staff members handling such a large number of passengers, and the whole process was a mess. It's really disappointing to see how poorly this is managed. Avoid !!
Honestly in shock at how badly organised the passport control is for arrivals. I have never seen something so chaotic. Our flight was only 2 hours from Gatwick but we spent 2 hours in a hot, sweaty and unorganised queue. There was no air con and people were pushing in the queue, which was out of the security's control as there was only 2 of them on shift! Forgot to mention that out of the hundreds of passengers arriving, they only had 2 staff members doing passport control. Absolutely atrocious treatment of passengers.
A good airport. Good facilities and straight through bag drop. Passport control was straightforward, too. We arrived 2 hours before for a 06.05 flight, and we had no problems at all. Food and drink is very expensive once checked in.
everything is fantastic about it. security, passport control and boarding was quick without long queues. overall lovely airport vibes however downstairs toilets (near the carousels) are minging and the boards don't always show all the information. other than that it's great, plenty of shops (duty free, portugal shop, vs, subway, pizza hut, etc) and the staff are all friendly!
Not bad for a small airport, a bit hit or miss. If you're departing here for a Schengen destination it's easy. If you're departing here for non-Schengen (UK, USA...) passport control looks like it's a mob of a line. If you're doing a Schengen departure don't stand around in the passport control line!
