Having hired many cars for work back home I was very pleased with the service at AirAuto. A transfer shuttle is offered at the airport to their lot across the road with a friendly driver who will help with your bags. We had an automatic Ford Focus estate with transponder fitted for tolls on the motorway (you will pay when returning the vehicle) There was a bit of a wait to get the vehicle at their reception but the staff were very helpful and encourage you to inspect the vehicle and take photos to mark any existing damage. We returned the car at 8:30 the day we flew back and the handover process took less than five minutes with a transfer back to the airport - very pleased. There is a steep credit card hold (2600 euro with partial excess waiver applied, I understand it is about 3000 without) but this had been released by the time I had arrived back in the UK the same day. Faultless and efficient and I wouldn't hesitate to use this company again the next time I am in the area.
They charge to vac sand out of the car! Positives first because I'm trying to be fair here - the car was a modern Ford Puma and automatic and the minibus to the airport was reasonably swift However I was mortified to be charged PS30 because they were going to have to vac sand out of the car after a family of four had spent a fortnight in a place full of beaches! I'd actually hired off them twice before as well without any issues so I thought the guy was joking at first! This was on top of the PS50 I was charged because our flight landed after 8pm but when I checked that rule is mentioned in the T&Cs, but there's nothing in there about sand. After reading other reviews charging for vacuuming seems to be a common scam for Air Auto and the prices also vary, so maybe I was lucky only getting robbed of PS30, but I'll avoid them in future and suggest you do the same.
Many hidden fees. Beware. Large credit hold that the company keep for ages. Car was okay; basic, but did the job. Poor service. Cannot arrive before 8am, and of course there's just one guy doing the checkouts AND driving the shuttle bus. Strongly recommend a different and more professional car hire company
Despite reading some of the negative reviews I pre-booked a car for 1 week towards the end of May. The good points: On arrival at Faro it was a bit of a walk to the minibus point,but it was easy to find and the driver was very friendly. Once at AirAuto the process was quite straightforward, however the car assigned (Seat Ateca) wasn't ready, so I was given an upgrade to a Ford Focus Estate at no extra cost. I had taken out separate insurance so they blocked a fee of EUR3000 on my credit card card. This was not charged but did reduce my available credit. I have to say that the service was brilliant. Car was superb and served us well while we were there. Upon returning the car, the staff member was pleasant and friendly. He checked the car and confirmed no damage. I was given a card receipt for the EUR50 early return fee and a receipt for the toll charges I had incurred (as expected) up to the day before return, and the Minibus was waiting for the short hop back to the airport. It's now 1 month since returning to the UK, and I have to admit I was worried as the EUR3000 block on the credit card was still there. However, today I have been charged a few EUR4 for the toll charges on the day of return (as expected) and the block on my credit card has been released. The bad points: Due to me not checking properly, our outbound flight from Faro meant I needed to return the car at an earlier time on return day. I rang AirAuto a few day before the return date to tell them and was advised I would be charged EUR50 early return fee. This is far too expensive, but I get it....They had to have someone there to assess the car and drive the minibus. In summary I am very happy with the service, the overall process, the car and the staff. I would happily use again next time I visit Portugal. We rented a compact from Air Auto and were pleasantly surprised. We were upgraded for free and the Peugot met all of our needs for the week. The attendants were professional and courteous both on pick-up and drop-off . I made sure that the car was clean both inside and out upon return and it seemed to be without issue on any surcharges. So far, I do not see any surcharges added to my credit card and am well satisfied with the rental.
We rent a VW UP at Air Auto, through Sunnycars, think we rented it in week 20. All-in for 13 days, around 430 euro. We received a Panda with 37k km. Great car. Somehow we alway get the Panda 80% of the time. Display was set to Dutch already. Great. These people did their best for us. They were very friendly and professional. Only in the taxi onward to the office we said we bring the car back before 8pm. (Most probably he did not hear or listen to what I said) So when paying the rent for the automatic toll device(+/- 19 Euro) we were charged an extra 80 Euros. My wife was sharper then me, she said we bring the car back before 8. So no extra charges would apply. So he took the 80 Euros of the charge again. Their main office closes at 8pm. Hence the extra fee for retuning the car outside to those hours. When the office is closed you will have to return the car through a fence 50 meters before the entrance of the main office. In around 20+ visits in Greece Spain and Portuga (Zakynthos Kos Crete Las Palma Madeira Gran Canaria Fuerteventura) we have never ever had this strange extra fee. For the rest we were happy with the service, no bad experience at all. Think you have to not want to have the cheapest car. Take enough insurance already. Car renters often want to sell you more insurance. We had that before.
Shuttle Service works well, with a super efficient driver. The rental service staff were efficient. Compulsory electronic device for toll fees charged. The car worked very well. The return was also smooth and efficient. Recommended
Excellent service, cheaper than the other rentals. There is a fee of 40EUR if you are returning the car earlier than 8a.m but they clearly tell you before. Returning of the car is very quick around 5 minutes only. Only 5 minutes from the airport or else they propose a transfer for free in shuttle.
