Liers. Do not rent car as they don't respect their own rules. Asked SPECIFICALLY for a possibility to do the deposit with debit card, got a CONFIRMATION MAIL for that, had proof with me and yet when I tried to rent car the told me simply NO. So how is it really? Who knows. Probably they have more shady things going on. Don't recommend at all. Joke of a company
I reserved and paid for the car rental online, when I came to pick it up, she told me that there is no such car now and they offered another, completely different one. The car was washed badly, on the windshield, the seats were covered with bread. This car is not suitable for Madeira at all, it is very difficult to go uphill because the car not only does not pull! When I returned I was told that everything was fine but when I received the Statement of Return - RA : 7018179075, it said that it was med scuffed, although upon inspection they said that everything was fine, I am disappointed with this company, I hope this is my last experience with them!
They are very friendly, able to speak 5 languages. An efficient and organised company. We got the deposit back within 24 hours, with an email confirmation of all the details.
Good location and helpful/professional staff. We were given a Fiat 500 cabriolet which was more fun for the same good price (via booking.com) - there was an upsell attempt to a car with a bigger engine, but the Fiat 500 did fine with Madeira's steep hills with 4 people on board - you would need a LOT more power to overtake on some of the hills...
I've already made different reserve with Europcar all around the word but there in Funchal at the desk they don't even know what they're doing. I made a reserve with my card (Mastercard)and I paid in advance the total amount. There, at the desk, they told me that my card was not accepted without any reason and they didn't explain why. It was the same card that I use to pay the whole amount. BE CAREFUL!!!!
Glad I took photos. Signed a rental agreement at the desk in the airport, before even being able to examine the car. I was hesitant to book, seeing all the reviews beforehand. I also was given the attempted extra premium insurance policy sell that we really didn't need and can confirm this now after two weeks. Strange setup when you arrive at the europcar desk in the car park. The person who ascesses the car with you doesn't have any europcar uniform. The girl was helpful however and recommended I take pictures of all around the car before leaving. When returning the car, the girl tried to say there was a scratch on the car that wasn't there previously... and also wasn't written on the report given to me previously. I was able to show her from my photos that the scratch was there luckily. 1300 I would've had to pay otherwise. I'd recommend taking as many photos as possible inside and outside the car as the the potential is scamming you is high.
I absolutely do not recommend this company to anyone! Extreme lack of respect for the customer, transparency, and honesty. I booked a car online for 4 days with medium insurance. When I arrived at the vehicle pick-up location, we were informed that the deposit could not be paid with a debit card, only with a credit card. It's 2024, and the excuse was that the ATM only accepts credit cards and that it's not possible to block amounts on debit cards, completely ridiculous. Debit cards can block amounts on the bank account, so much so that the total amount of the reservation was blocked and was only withdrawn from me at the end of the 4 rental days. We tried to cancel but the employee said that a cancellation fee would be on the cards but he didn't said how much, he said that didn't know, could be from 50EUR to the full booked price... How could an employee not know this? After 1 hour of this discussion, we gave up and ended up paying for premium insurance and a full fuel tank to avoid paying a deposit. To top it all off, after a small trip we noticed that the vehicle we had been given was a hybrid rechargeable (it recharged with braking and deceleration). Complete lack of shame and honesty, both from the company and the employees!
I needed to hire a car for a day and compared prices. The site I watched tald me this would be the best option. On arrival there the worker tald me that the option was not available for EU citizens but only for US citizens. I had to pay some additional amount but nevertheless it was though the best and cheapest option. I almost never write review. Sorry I'm too lazy for this. But I was really happy and surprised with the car we got. It was a small Fiat Cabrio. But it was a First Class car. Anything was fabulous equipped and the engine was very strong. It took us, me and my hubby, both over 120 kg, up on extremely steep mountains on Madeira. I was several times scared we would have to go reverse on a narrow one-way road. But not with this Fiat. I'm still amazed it managed to take us up the mountains. Thanks to the car and and thank you, EuropeCar.
