Great service, good communication and interaction with the people in the shop. Would have given 5 stars, however the car we rented should have had the brake disks changed. We rented a gray Audi A1 (AS-55-DS) and after 10 min driving once the brakes got hot (and they will, the whole island is hills and valleys) they were clearly warped, making the steering wheel shake under braking, making for not such a smooth drive. As of 6 Sept 2024 we returned the car and we informed them the car needs new brake disks. If you do get that car, make sure you ask about the brakes. Other than this, everything was great.

Super price-performance ratio! We received an upgrade (hybrid & automatic) which we only noticed in the car. The staff in the service as well as at the return was very friendly. One person was ahead of us so we only had to wait 10 minutes. Tip: Avoid rush hour (10 am) In addition to the deposit, an amount was reserved for the tank and we were told that the price was cheaper than at the gas station. However, this would only have been worthwhile if the tank had been completely empty, so we returned the car with a full tank and were not charged anything.
A good experience with Hertz here in Funchal, a tip for future renters is that when you pick up the car early, you have to return it also early. In our case we were there 45 min early, so then you have to return it also 45 min early then on the contract. This is common for all car rental company's. I would recommend and rent again here. I had an issue with this, but that has been fully resolved in the end.
We had an absolute blast with out Hertz car the topo tent make it an incredible experience to sleep in such cute spots around the island! The car is spacious and safe to drive in the Madeira's winding roads thanks Hertz Madeira for the great service!
It was a pleasure to discover the island of Madeira with our camper! We slept in some amazing locations and were able to go up the hills easily! We were really happy with our car. We highly recommend!
