we rented a 500 car for 10 days to do a road trip from Porto to Lisbon. We never had any problems with the car and at the checkout in Lisbon, they accompanied us to the airport hotel by a van because we had a big suitcase and it would have taken us too long to get there. We highly recommend this company, great service and friendly staff.

A great local company to rent a car with! We came to this company because it was close to our hotel, and we choose well! The were kind and professional at the desk, so everything went very smooth (when we picked up and returned the car). Their renting fees are reasonable, and the car was 10/10 (totally new) so we highly enjoyed our trip in Portugal. Highly recommended, and I'll definitely rent a car from them again.

Easy to book online, they need up to 24h to confirm your booking. You can also rent a car quick if available - just walk in. Had nice car for 2 days. No problem, no issues. With full insurance option there is no deposit. You will need present credit card on your name but there is no money secured at this moment. They need it for tickets and quick gates on motorway if you wish to use them. Second driver, baby seat or tyres/windows option available. Definitely recommend as we've checked same car with Europcar and the price was almost double.

Great experience. Rented car through the website, picked up at Braamcamp providing passport, driving license and debit/credit card. Got a very clean 8 months old Seat which gave a spectacular ride. Manual gear box, 3 car modes eco, normal and sport, full electronic with phone connection to car console. Rented it for 1 day only to have a road trip from Lisbon to west coast. Chose premium insurance to avoid francise payment. On drop off standard around the car check was done and fuel level. Highly recommended. If around again will be comi g back. Thank you!

Great service!! I booked online but my card wouldnt go through, CAEL contacted me directly and secured my reservation with no pre-payment. We got a sweet Fiat Panda almost new, good car for seeing the country. Very cheap too, something like 250 for 2 weeks and 2 drivers. Via verde chip was installed. The deposit was returned immediately after we dropped off the car. No problem at all. Will definetly come again when visiting Portugal.

You have to say when things are not going well but also when things are going well! Rental in August for 10 days city center agency. Very good car with low mileage, well equipped and very clean. Staff not very welcoming but dont pose any particular problems. They didnt try to sell us any other services. Contact by email quite easy before rental to clarify a few details. Like many people, they have problems with the type of payment card (hence 4 stars). Although I had a deferred debit card, which I made on purpose so as not to have any problems, it was not accepted for me because it says credit card (in accordance with European law and which means be deferred debit and normally intended to facilitate rentals). Fortunately we had another card saying credit/debit which was accepted even though it was an immediate debit and which is normally not accepted by rental agencies but as the word debit is written on it that reassured the reception staff. In the end we dont know what type of card they want and its better to go with 2 different types of cards. Without this detail I recommend this agency, easy to access in the city center with not too many people.

Bien quayant une carte a debit differe, que jai faite expres pour ne pas avoir de soucis, elle ne ma pas ete accepte car il est ecrit dessus carte de credit (conformemment a la loi europeenne et qui signifie etre a debit differe et normalement cense faciliter les locations). Heureusement nous avions une autre carte mentionnant credit/debit qui elle a ete accepte alors quelle etait a debit immediat et qui normalement nest pas accepte par les agences de location mais comme il est inscrit dessus le mot debit cela a rassure le personnel daccueil. Au final on ne sait pas quel type de carte ils veulent et mieux vaut partir avec 2 types de cartes differentes. Sans ce detail je recommande cette agence facile dacces en centre ville avec pas trop de monde.

We rented a small car (Citroen C1) for 8 days from CAEL on Rua Braamcamp in the summer of 2024. The car had some minor scratches and dents, but that didnt bother us. The price was good, the car ran absolutely smoothly and used very little petrol. That was more important to us than the appearance and it was definitely enough for two people. We booked through booking.com and took out additional insurance beforehand. The check upon return was completed quickly, and you were given a detailed list of the toll fees to be paid, which I found very good and transparent. No further demands were made. The deposit of 1,500 euros, which was deducted from the credit card when I rented it, only ended up back in my account a month after I returned the vehicle and sent an email to the head office about it. That was a bit strange. But based on the overall good experience, I would recommend this car rental company and rent a car there again myself.

Wir haben im Sommer 2024 einen Kleinwagen (Citroen C1) fur 8 Tage bei CAEL in der Rua Braamcamp gemietet. Der Wagen hatte einige kleinere Kratzer und Dellen, aber das storte uns nicht. Dafur war der Preis gut, das Auto lief absolut problemlos und verbrauchte auch sehr wenig Benzin. Das war uns wichtiger als die Optik und fur zwei Personen reichte er auf alle Falle aus. Wir haben uber booking.com gebucht und eine zusatzliche Versicherung vorher abgeschlossen. Der Check bei der Ruckgabe war schnell erledigt, uber die zu zahlenden Mautgebuhren bekam man eine genaue Auflistung, was ich sehr gut und transparent fand. Es wurden auch keine weiteren Forderungen gestellt. Die Kaution von 1500 Euro, die bei der Ausleihe von der Kreditkarte abgezogen wurde, landete dann aber erst einen Monat nach Ruckgabe des Fahrzeugs und einer Mail an die Zentrale diesbezuglich wieder auf meinem Konto. Das war etwas komisch. Aber aufgrund der insgesamt guten Erfahrungen wurde ich diese Autovermietung weiter empfehlen und auch selbst nochmal dort ein Auto mieten.

Very good local car rental company. Our VW was very well maintained when we picked it up. The whole administration only took 5 minutes, with no waiting time. They also didnt want to sell us additional insurance. A very speedy process. The drop-off near the airport only took 2 minutes and we were then driven straight to the terminal. Overall, we were very satisfied with Cael and would choose Cael again on our next stay. Our general experience is that the service at smaller, local rental stations is much better than at the larger players. The chip for the toll roads was installed in the car and it was billed correctly when it was dropped off. Thanks for the good service!

Sehr gute lokale Autovermietungs Firma. Unser VW war sehr gepflegt, als wir ihn in Empfang nehmen durften. Die ganze Administration dauerte nur 5 Minuten, ohne eine Wartezeit. Man wollte auch nicht noch zusatzliche Versicherungen uns andrehen. Ein sehr speditiver Ablauf. Auch die Abgabe in der Nahe des Flughafens dauerte nur 2 Minuten und wir wurden danach direkt ans Terminal gefahren. Insgesamt waren wir sehr zufrieden mit Cael und wurden bei einem nachsten Aufenthalt wieder Cael wahlen. Unsere Erfahrung ist allgemein, dass der Service bei kleineren, lokalen Vermieterstationen viel besser ist als bei den grossen Playern. Der Chip fur die gebuhrenpflichtigen Strassen war fix eingebaut im Auto und bei der Abgabe wurde es korrekt abgerechnet. Danke fur den guten Service!

Not a very well-known agency, I recommend it in comparison to the large, classic and well-known agencies which indulge in prices a little.... Tips: Book with a credit card and not a debit card. And for more peace of mind, buy the excess (otherwise 2,500 ), good insurance to travel peacefully

MUST READ! 2 months later update: I was charged by them 2 months after and clearly I did not use their service so I had to dispute the charge with my credit card and close it!!!! I DO NOTTTT recommend using them! Stay away! INITIAL COMMENT: I was given the wrong information about the drop off location and operating hours and was told no need to drop off key in the box because they are 24/7 there which was untrue. This made the return extremely stressful and delayed my plans in over 3 hours, and I almost missed my flight! Also, when I called the company, there was no one to help, only roadside assistance which is not what I needed. I will not recommend this service to anyone. If you are in Lisbon and need to return the car at the airport, stick with Herz and the other big companies as their return is INSIDE of the airport, unlike CAEL where you need to rely on a shuttle and they are NOT open before 8am and no key drop box either.

Exceptional service, fast, efficient, no gray areas in the procedure or in the price, I rented a car for 16 days, a new 208 (only 100km) Like all the other comments left on the rental sites, I was apprehensive about renting in Lisbon, but surprise, they accepted Discovercars insurance without question, the deposit returned after a quick inspection, no detailed search on the graffiti. One star because I cant give less! After making the payment, we showed up at the shop, we couldnt take the vehicle because we didnt have a credit card physically on the back, in our name, and a card in the name of parents or relatives, physically on the back, wasnt suitable either. We tried to look for solutions, but the answer was always a no, and that in any rent a car in Portugal, they dont rent cars without a credit card. Simply put, you need a credit card physically there, not even digitally, and other types of cards or anything else are not accepted. Leave yourself stranded without many problems with tours of Portugal to do. Luckily there is Hertz around the corner, which in 15 minutes, without many problems and a lot of availability, made us book a car without ruining our tour of the splendid Portuguese lands. The funniest part? the incomplete refund, as it was our mistake not to see the terms and conditions before ticking the box (written in a magnifying glass size and within the general terms)

Lasciati a piedi senza tanti problemi con tour del Portogallo da fare. Menomale c e Hertz dietro l angolo, che in 15 minuti, senza tanti problemi e molta disponibilita, ci ha fatto prenotare una macchina senza rovinarci il tour nelle spledide terre portoghesi. La parte piu divertente? il rimborso incompleto, in quanto e stato un errore nostro non vedere i termini e condizioni prima di spuntare la casella (scritti in una dimensione da lente d ingrandimento e dentro i termini generali)

We rented a car to go to Setubal, and everything went very well. Fast, clear and without fine print. It is mandatory to present the credit card (even having made the reservation online), their website clearly specifies this. They force you to use the green route, but it is also specified during the contract. The staff that assisted us was really very friendly. We chose some child seats, and with them we looked to see if they were appropriate by age or not. If I have to rent a car again, I will definitely do it here.

Efficiency in vehicle delivery (administrative, check-in). We rented the car for two weeks. Departure from Lisbon and delivery to Faro. The rented car was new, with few kilometers, including the automatic toll box. A transport shuttle will pick you up and take you back to the airport! Unfortunately, when we returned the car, we were cheated out of money again because there was sand from the beach in the car... cleaning fee. That was annoying and wasnt announced at the beginning. It was said that we had to vacuum again before returning the car (with two children, mind you).
