Be very careful when renting here. I had a booked car with a set price and they managed increase the price with nearly 150% with some simple add ons. It turns out the price wasn't the really price from beginning. Very confusing and this has never happened to me before. I didn't expect that from them, but you learn. Never renting here again and Sixt or someone else is probably a better option. I recommend you to stay away or be extremely careful dealing with them!
I rented a car in Portimao and returned it to Lisbon. The rental people were so kind. I had scratched the car and hadn't paid for their insurance. I showed the scratch to the rental agency and the man working there said it was such a small scratch, it wasn't a big deal and they wouldn't charge me for it. He was so kind. Would definitely recommend Europcar at Lisbon airport. The return process was so fast and easy.
The gentleman at the desk helped me to make the best decisions for driving in Portugal. He upgraded me to automatic and a more substantial car with good insurance . All of this turned out to be the safest options! His attitude was excellent and genuinely caring!
Be weary, the cars you rent from Europcar are not upto the mark, we got an " upgrade " however on day 2 of our trip the car just died in the morning and the technician could not figure the problem for hours. The battery was dead, key was not detected, and mind you, this car has done only 8175 km We were in Peniche and requested for a replacement car to be sent to us or that we will go to the nearest Europcar and pick a car so we can continue on our travels. The customer service advisor was very rude on the phone and decided to bring us back all the way to Lisbon. He was not willing to listen to anything we had to say Thanks to Europcar, we lost a day and ruined our holiday. Imagine the service technician asking us to go and buy a battery for the key fob for the car Mind you, he has a car and speaks Portuguese. Instead, one of us had to go on foot to town and hunt for a battery while yours truly was chilling. You are better off renting from other companies, stay away from Europcar
Professional and polite staff. Showed up earlier than reservation was set for. Still got helped. Great car. Automatic transmission diesel. Very efficient. Drop off was quick and without problem. Loved it. Thank you Europcar.
This was my first time renting a car, and overall, the experience with Europcar was quite positive. We booked everything online, creating an Europcar profile before arriving to pick up the car at our designated time. Upon arrival, I was initially concerned by the number of people at the Europcar booth. However, we were pleasantly surprised to be given priority access. Whether this was due to our online profile or because I had my 3-year-old daughter with me (who was not in the best mood), I'm still not sure! Regardless, our wait time was barely 5 minutes, which was a pleasant surprise. The employee assisting us was polite and thoroughly explained our car options and insurance. Within about 20 minutes, we had the keys in hand. Our original online booking indicated a cost of EUR528, but our final invoice was EUR486, which was another unexpected but welcome surprise. Overall, it was a very pleasant and efficient experience. Cons: Instead of the Volkswagen ID.3 we initially booked, we were given a Jeep Avenger Electric. While the Jeep was a nice car, it did have some issues. The 12v battery icon on the dashboard would sometimes light up red. I pointed this out to the employee, who checked it herself but it didn't light up red icon for her. Unfortunately, as our trip progressed, the icon remained red continuously, which was concerning. In the end of our trip, the trunk could not be closed using the button and had to be closed manually. I think it is because dead 12v battery. Navigating the airport to pick up the car was also confusing. We first found the Europcar booth, but it was closed. We then went to the car pick-up area, only to be told we needed to create a contract at Terminal 1. After some searching, we eventually found the right booth in Terminal 1. Lastly, Europcar uses a subcontractor for renting out child seats. While this isn't directly Europcar's fault, it does reflect poorly on them for choosing this particular subcontractor. The child seat we received was old and of low quality. It lacked ISOFIX, which is a safety standard nowadays, as well as a 5-point harness. They simply didn't have a better seat for my daughter, which was a constant source of worry during our trip as she was not securely fastened. Especially when she was falling asleep and the 3 point belt went completely loose. Overall: While the rental process was smooth and efficient, the issues with the car and the child seat were disappointing. I hope Europcar can address these concerns for future customers.
We always rent cars! Always! I mandatory make all the videos and photos of the car before and after renting, and never buy extra insurance. First time ever after returning the car, they are trying to cheat and charge us for damage we didn't make. The car had 87000 km, and had damages from all the sides and was very dirty inside. I send them all the photos from the beginning of rent, hope they will realize they are doing wrong! Upd! After all they sent a message that it was a mistake and no charges will be done. I add some starts...
Friendly staff during check in at the airport counter. He explained everything in details about the price and insurance. Then you have to walk through to another building car park to collect the vehicle. A piece of advice is that make sure to check every car panels in details or take pictures. The car itself got so many scratches, dents and marks alloy wheels. Although the staff who handed over the vehicle to customer did check the vehicle condition. I never rented a vehicle with so many little damages maybe this is something to do with the city environment due to tight parking and roads condition. Overall, it was great experiences driving the vehicle in Lisbon.
