Really bad car rental company, they rip you off with unwanted double insurance, which is twice as expensive as the rental price already booked through a third party provider. Addendum to Europcar's response below: The promised support at [email protected] was also completely useless and did nothing to counteract the forced contract, which I revoked directly after the car-pickup. The invoiced amount was simply debited from the account without any goodwill and days later another fee was simply charged without any invoice or information.

While the process for picking up the vehicle was quick and easy, the condition of the vehicle we rented was disappointing. We got the comprehensive coverage so they waived doing a full inspection of the vehicle since "any damage would be covered". The first time we had to use the windshield wipers during heavy rain driving from Porto to Lagos, the wipers barely made contact with the windshield and made visibility worse. We stopped by the nearest Europcar in Aveiro to get them replaced. We arrived at 12:00pm. This process took 3 hours as no replacement vehicle was available and we had to wait for the garage to re-open at 2pm for them to be replaced. We didn't have the option to purchase replacements and get reimbursed, and the rain was too heavy to drive safely to another location. Even though the order was called in advance, we arrived at 2pm and had to wait 45 minutes for the part to be ordered and delivered, with additional time to install so we could continue our 5 hour drive to Lagos. A day later when in Lagos, we have no windshield washer fluid left when driving on the highway. It had barely been used. It was evident a proper inspection of our vehicle wasn't done as fluids weren't topped up. They also failed to mention that to use Apple car play, while there was a USB-C and USB-B port on the dashboard, only one port could be used to connect. Wireless connection was not an option. We only had USB-B cables on us so had to buy a USB-C cable to make it work. IMO, this cable should have been included in the car rental if it was an older model and wireless connection wasn't an option. We learned about this limitation when getting our windshield wipers replaced. If you're going to book with Europcar, do your due diligence to check wiper blades, tire pressure, fluid levels and ensure if you plan to use Apple car play to navigate, you have a USB-C cable available.

Edited Comment: After i raised my concern, the support team was really helpful with the refund of mischarging. I really appreciate their professional approach to the issue and informing me regarding all steps that they were doing. Now, the issue is resolved and Europcar gained my trust again. Thank you. My renting experience considering the car was great. There is no negative side of the car itself (it was brand new) and insurance package. However, i need to emphasize that (as a sincere feedback) you need to inform better About the tolls for highways. Additionally, the employees Should check better for fuel status, whether the car received as full tank or half-tank (regardless of the return shop). Thanks again for the support and good service.

My experience was very good! We picked up the car in 15 minutes and Armando in the end helped us for the drop off. I would suggest to anyone, take the car with full insurance (it doesn't need to check the car for damages in the beginning and in the end, cause of the full insurance). A lot of car rental companies maybe try to charge you some damage if you don't have the full insurance. They charged us also, 100 euro more, in case for not bringing the car back with full tank, but we brought it back full and they returned us the full amount of 100 in a couple of days.

Always take a video of the car before you rent it. It was my mistake that I didn't take a video. I haven't paid attention to the rim, which was slightly damaged before me. As a result they are trying to charge more than EUR110 for the past damage. You can see that tyre is safe, if the rim is damaged the tyre will be damaged as well. I won't return to this car rental anywhere in the world.

Very efficient location - did not try to upsell me on anything, and by the time the paperwork was signed a clean car had already been pulled out of the garage. The car was new with less than 500km. Probably took me 5 minutes for pickup and another 5 for drop off. Highly recommend this location.

We had a fantastic experience renting a Fiat 500 from Europcar's downtown location in Lisbon. David, the team member who assisted us during check-in, was truly exceptional. He greeted us warmly, was extremely polite, and provided us with valuable information. Not only did he ensure we got the car we desired, but he also shared insights about renting an electric vehicle for a future trip. Although I usually prefer electric cars, this time we wanted to try out the Fiat, and we were not disappointed. Additionally, we greatly appreciated the convenience of returning the car until 8:00 PM at a downtown location close to our hotel in Lisbon. Overall, it was an excellent experience. Obrigado David!

We stayed in Portugal together with friends. A friend rents a car from Sixt, and unfortunately I decided to rent from Europacar. Unfortunately, I say this because I booked a lower-class Fiat 500X car online with all the essential insurance, but of course they added some kind of insurance of their own for an additional 20 euros, and instead of the FiatX I got some kind of Opel Crossland in which everything creaked. I paid about 175 eur for the car, together with 216.92 eur tolls... they took that much from my account, because I did not receive any invoice from them by mail. A friend who booked a higher-class car for 194eur eventually received an email from Sixt with a toll of 228eur. Im now interested in how I paid more tolls and my friend paid less, and we drove together on the same highways one after the other. WHERE IS THE BILL?? (There is some kind of toll machine in the car that allows you to drive on highways without stopping, after which the renta car calculates the toll for you later)

Za auto sam dao oko cca 175eur, skupa sa putarinama 216,92eur...toliko su mi uzeli sa ra una, jer ja od njih nisam nikakav ra un na mail dobio. Prijatelj koji je rezervirao auto vi ega razreda za 194eur je na kraju od Sixt_a dobio na mail ra un skupa sa putarinom 228eur. Mene sad zanima kako da sam ja platio vi e putarine a prijatelj manje a skupa jedan za drugim smo vozili po istim autocestama. GDJE JE RA UN?? (U auto se nalazi nekakav aparat za putarinu koji vam omogu ava vo nju po autocestama brez zaustavljanja nakon ega vam renta car naknadno obra una putarinu)

This company is a real scam, They change Navigation for three days, The rental car doesnt even equip with Navigation, we were using our phone for Navigation for the whole three days, and they change for additional driver for three days, there was only one National register at the car rental counter and only one of have National driver license, Have email the office, no reply. 2 and 1/2 they sent me another invoice for toll pass of $78 Canadian, When we pick up the rental the guy told us pay toll are all included. We experienced such poor customer service at this company. My prepaid booking was made through Booking.com 2 weeks earlier. I had called Europcar Reservations a day earlier to inform them of a later pick-up time. After confirming my reservation, I was assured that there would not be any problem at all. However, the next day at the pick-up counter, we were told that our reservation was cancelled. Apparently, central Europcar reservations center had failed to inform the office of my earlier request for a later pick-up time. The Rep at the Counter said that I should have called that particular office location instead of the Europcar Reservations number. Instead of acknowledging the miscommunication in their own internal systems, he basically accused me of lying about making that earlier phone call. I would have walked out then, except for the fact that I had already paid for the booking. He then offered a larger vehicle (trying to upsell) which we declined. Then, he offered a downgrade from a Medium Car to a Small Car. We accepted the vehicle without any complaints. We were so shocked at the attitude of this Service Representative working on Friday Oct 19th. Europcar has lost a customer for good.
