I recently rented a Mini Cooper from Europcar and had an amazing experience, thanks to Joao Realinho. From the moment we walked into the rental office, Joao's friendly and professional approach made a big difference. Joao went out of his way to make sure everything was smooth and stress-free. He knew the car inside and out, and his clear explanations made us feel confident about our choice. Joao was patient, answered all our questions with a smile, and made the whole process feel easy and personal. He handled the paperwork quickly and efficiently and even shared tips about the car's features that made our drive more enjoyable. Really bad car rental company, they rip you off with unwanted double insurance, which is twice as expensive as the rental price already booked through a third party provider. Addendum to Europcar's response below: The promised support at [email protected] was also completely useless and did nothing to counteract the forced contract, which I revoked directly after the car-pickup. The invoiced amount was simply debited from the account without any goodwill and days later another fee was simply charged without any invoice or information.
While the process for picking up the vehicle was quick and easy, the condition of the vehicle we rented was disappointing. We got the comprehensive coverage so they waived doing a full inspection of the vehicle since "any damage would be covered". The first time we had to use the windshield wipers during heavy rain driving from Porto to Lagos, the wipers barely made contact with the windshield and made visibility worse. We stopped by the nearest Europcar in Aveiro to get them replaced. We arrived at 12:00pm. This process took 3 hours as no replacement vehicle was available and we had to wait for the garage to re-open at 2pm for them to be replaced. We didn't have the option to purchase replacements and get reimbursed, and the rain was too heavy to drive safely to another location. Even though the order was called in advance, we arrived at 2pm and had to wait 45 minutes for the part to be ordered and delivered, with additional time to install so we could continue our 5 hour drive to Lagos. A day later when in Lagos, we have no windshield washer fluid left when driving on the highway. It had barely been used. It was evident a proper inspection of our vehicle wasn't done as fluids weren't topped up. They also failed to mention that to use Apple car play, while there was a USB-C and USB-B port on the dashboard, only one port could be used to connect. Wireless connection was not an option. We only had USB-B cables on us so had to buy a USB-C cable to make it work. IMO, this cable should have been included in the car rental if it was an older model and wireless connection wasn't an option. We learned about this limitation when getting our windshield wipers replaced. If you're going to book with Europcar, do your due diligence to check wiper blades, tire pressure, fluid levels and ensure if you plan to use Apple car play to navigate, you have a USB-C cable available.
Edited Comment: After i raised my concern, the support team was really helpful with the refund of mischarging. I really appreciate their professional approach to the issue and informing me regarding all steps that they were doing. Now, the issue is resolved and Europcar gained my trust again. Thank you. My renting experience considering the car was great. There is no negative side of the car itself (it was brand new) and insurance package. However, i need to emphasize that (as a sincere feedback) you need to inform better About the tolls for highways. Additionally, the employees Should check better for fuel status, whether the car received as full tank or half-tank (regardless of the return shop). Thanks again for the support and good service.
My experience was very good! We picked up the car in 15 minutes and Armando in the end helped us for the drop off. I would suggest to anyone, take the car with full insurance (it doesn't need to check the car for damages in the beginning and in the end, cause of the full insurance). A lot of car rental companies maybe try to charge you some damage if you don't have the full insurance. They charged us also, 100 euro more, in case for not bringing the car back with full tank, but we brought it back full and they returned us the full amount of 100 in a couple of days.
Always take a video of the car before you rent it. It was my mistake that I didn't take a video. I haven't paid attention to the rim, which was slightly damaged before me. As a result they are trying to charge more than EUR110 for the past damage. You can see that tyre is safe, if the rim is damaged the tyre will be damaged as well. I won't return to this car rental anywhere in the world.
Very efficient location - did not try to upsell me on anything, and by the time the paperwork was signed a clean car had already been pulled out of the garage. The car was new with less than 500km. Probably took me 5 minutes for pickup and another 5 for drop off. Highly recommend this location.
We had a fantastic experience renting a Fiat 500 from Europcar's downtown location in Lisbon. David, the team member who assisted us during check-in, was truly exceptional. He greeted us warmly, was extremely polite, and provided us with valuable information. Not only did he ensure we got the car we desired, but he also shared insights about renting an electric vehicle for a future trip. Although I usually prefer electric cars, this time we wanted to try out the Fiat, and we were not disappointed. Additionally, we greatly appreciated the convenience of returning the car until 8:00 PM at a downtown location close to our hotel in Lisbon. Overall, it was an excellent experience. Obrigado David!
