Booked online ahead of the holiday. Collecting the car was very straightforward. They took three card authorisiations: one in case we didn't return the car with a full tank of petrol. One for road tolls - this was very useful as we just took the green lane on all toll roads and didn't have to mess about with payment on the roads. The total charge was then made to the card at the end of the hire period. The third authorisation was for up to PS2000 towards any damage to the car. DO NOT take out their insurance - it's really expensive. Instead get insurance from someone like cover4rentals. This is really important as driving in Lisbon is a bit like the Cannonball rally! Fortunately we had no damage so it wasn't an issue. We dropped off at 5am so there was no one there to check for damage - we took lots of photos just in case but it wasn't an issue. Would definitely use them again.
I rented a crossover vehicle for exploring the areas near Lisbon during 3 days. The key 'n go system was very helpful, as I've provided my ID and driver's license via their platform after receiving an email. Upon arrival, very helpful staff and I could even choose between 2 vehicles. The fleet looked good and our car was no exception, it was a pleasure to drive. Gave it back clean and with a full tank, just as received. The deposit money was given back on this Sunday as I barely woke up after the flight home from Portugal.
The car was dirty inside and out with the windscreen incredibly greasy. The tyre deflation warning light was on at collection and dismissed by the rental handover staff. The car park was suffering from double parked cars making maneuvers to get the car out of its parking space difficult. The service warning light came on during my hire period. The windscreen washer fluid reservoir was empty as I found out on my drive to our hotel. Collection at the rental desk was relatively easy and drop off the same. Opportunities to improve car preparation before customer handover I think.
Rented a car on my recent trip to Lisbon. Service was so fast, easy and friendly. Returning the car to the airport was fast! The car I had was brand new with less than 13K km's. Clean and in perfect shape. All this, and the best part was that they were priced much cheaper than other companies! Will definitely use them again in the future!
A positive experience until the end, with a twist that made this the worst rental experience I've ever had. Let me start by saying that I travel both for work and for pleasure, and I'm used to traveling all over the world. I'm experienced, careful, and pretty "skilled" when it comes to renting cars. Yet, Goldcar at Lisbon airport still managed to surprise me. I had rented from them before and hadn't had any issues up to this point. To keep it short: I rented a Fiat 500 with the full "Relax" insurance, so I wouldn't have to worry about anything, paying extra for it of course. I did everything online, including the "Key N Go" option, and I have to say, everything was quick and smooth. Except for one thing: the car had some damage, both inside and out. They told me, "No worries, you have full coverage." And in fact, whenever I've gotten full coverage - with any company - I've never had any issues, even if the car had some minor damage. But here's what happened: when I returned the car, they claimed there was some interior damage, which I'll attach a picture of. There were some stains on the passenger side (keep in mind, I was traveling alone) that were already there when I picked up the car. The stains looked like something corrosive, something I couldn't explain or justify. I mean, how could I have made them? With what? Anyway, I immediately disputed it, and they told me to talk to the people at the service desk. So I did. They reassured me: "Don't worry, you have full Relax coverage, so nothing will change, no extra charges." The next week, I receive: - Full refund of the deposit (correct) - A charge (which was correct) for the Via Verde toll system (their version of a toll pass) - A 150 euro charge for the "damage." I emailed them, and this turned into a back-and-forth about my case. They explained that the charge was for the "stains" inside, which required deep cleaning, and the fee for that is anywhere between 35 and 150 euros. Of course, in my case - surprise surprise - it was the maximum: 150 euros. I explained my situation in detail, multiple times over the last month, to customer service, but no luck: "it's just procedure." So: - What was the point of paying for full Relax coverage? - Why wasn't the car's existing damage an issue when I picked it up, but suddenly it is when I return it? - Why did Goldcar staff, both at pickup and drop-off, tell me, "It's not a problem"? Again: 150 euros. Pretty much the cost of renting another car. With all the good faith in the world, it's hard for me to think about renting with Goldcar again, and I certainly wouldn't recommend it to anyone else.
I recently had a fantastic experience with Goldcar Rental at Lisbon Airport. The pick-up process was straightforward and hassle-free, making my journey begin on a positive note. One of the standout features was the inclusion of an electronic transponder, which made paying for motorway toll incredibly convenient. I had booked a small electric car, and to my delight, I was upgraded to a charming open-top Fiat 600. The car was in pristine condition, exceptionally clean, and fully charged when I picked it up. While there were minor cosmetic scratches on the bumper, they were noted on the contract paperwork, reflecting Godcar's attention to detail and transparency. Driving the Fiat 600 was a joy! It truly enhanced my experience of exploring Portugal's beautiful historic sites, and the open-top feature added an extra layer of fun. Charging the vehicle was a breeze thanks to the MIIO app, which provided easy access to various charging locations. Returning the car was just as efficient as pick-up, and I appreciated the thorough inspection process with the Goldcar operative. They communicated well via email regarding the car return and any tolls incurred during my travels, which were also accurately billed. This was my third experience with Goldcar, and I couldn't be more satisfied. I'm confident I will book with them again in the future!
First time renting from Goldcar after having used different companies for rentals. Positive experience from them starting at the service desk where the lady that attended me was very nice, courteous and friendly. The car was clean in and out and had low kilometers. Overall, a positive experience.
Everything was great, except no one told me about the car charging rules. When I went to charge my car, I found out I needed a special physical card that you have to order and wait for delivery. Of course, I didn't have it with me, so I had to ask people nearby who were charging their cars for help. Thanks to them, I managed to charge my car. Big minus to the company for not warning about this!
