Welcome to Centauro, where they've redefined "customer service" as "making customers pay to get ignored." Here's how their masterfully crafted business model plays out: 1. Step 1: Offer rental rates so low, you'll be patting yourself on the back before you even see the car. You think you've scored a deal, but oh, they're just getting started. 2. Step 2: Promise a shuttle to pick you up from the airport every 10-15 minutes, which roughly translates to "whenever we feel like it, or maybe never." 3. Step 3: This is where the magic happens. After standing curbside watching the tumbleweeds roll by, you're tempted - no, encouraged - to call their premium-charged hotline. 4. Step 4: Once you dial, prepare to hemorrhage money as you hold on their premium-rate line. Each minute spent on hold is pure gold for them (and pure expense for you). 5. Step 5: They won't answer, naturally. Instead, you'll be ushered through an endless phone maze. And when you think help is near, Step 6 kicks in... 6. Step 6: A delightful computer voice will end your call, saying something in Spanish - yes, even if you're in Portugal. Confused? Perfect! That's just the motivation you need to call again. And again. Racking up premium charges each time. 7. Step 7: You're now on the hamster wheel, running up those premium phone charges that quickly outpace the original "budget-friendly" car rental rate. It's a revenue generator disguised as customer support. 8. Step 8: Meanwhile, the management is undoubtedly reclining in office chairs, grinning at their phone bill revenue and counting your calls as the next happy customer readies themselves for the same premium-rate rodeo. Ingenious business model.
We had a very good experience with Centauro. It was easy to check-in and we were in our vehicle in just a few minutes. The car was clean and comfortable. We did not have any problems at all with the car for the 9 days we rented it. Upon returning the car, we checked and double checked we had everything. It was explained to me that my gas deposit will be returned immediately (we returned it with a full tank) and I would be notified of any toll refund or charges in the next few day. Very easy and professional. I would definitely recommend them, and will use them again.
Very unfriendly employees (at least some of them). They don't accept Debit Cards, even if there is enough money on it for the deposit. To be fair, it says so in the rental conditions, but at 5 other rental car companies in Portugal I never had a problem, although it also said it's only possible with a credit card. Here, the rude woman at the counter didn't even want to try at the machine. My bank says a debit card has the same functions as a credit card as long there is enough money on it for the transactions. The woman didn't care about that. But she was very happy to sell us a EUR58 insurance for two days (so "only" EUR29 per day). The deposit for the battery charging level and the tolls they ironically/happily accepted with a debit card after we paid for the extra insurance. But she couldn't give a real reason why. The car itself was nice, I rented an electric car. The car was almost new and almost fully charged, and there was a type 2 charging cable and a type 2 to schuko cable in the car. That was good for public charging or even charging at home. My tip: TAKE PICTURES and RECORD VIDEOS BEFORE and AFTER the car rectal OF THE INSIDE AND OUTSIDE of the car, especially at this company. Make sure to document every little cm of the car, because the other bad Google reviews also make the impression that they use every opportunity to rip you off if you have to pay a deposit.
We used Centauro from Porto airport and it was great!! Took us a while to find the right shuttle bus but we then only waited a bit for it to come! Once we got there the staff were very quick and helpful and in my opinion really good English and helped us lots!! We didn't use the car seat facility as we brought our own but I saw the car seats and I was very impressed with the quality and cleanliness! Our car was great for us personally we should have got a bigger car or just brought less stuff as the initial journey was a bit of a squeeze for us! But once we got to our accommodation and dropped all luggage off the car was great size for a pram and 2 car seats! The car was very clean and a lovely drive! We loved that you didn't need to have a credit card because well we don't have one and this company was fab and will 100% use again when we come again which hopefully will be a lot as we have family out there! We used the website to book and paid for Premium and honestly will do this again as everything was covered under this and was great price for the week at short notice for us! Thanks
Very good car rental, when we arrived we were being taken care of within minutes, about about 40 minutes after landing we were on the road. The car was a brand new Nissan Qashqai with just over 500km, with al the desired safety features. Returning the car was even easier, it only took about 5 to 10 minutes. I wouldn't think twice about renting a car at Centauro Porto, it was way better than in Lisbon, because we had to wait about 4 hours for a car.
This is the third time I use Centauro, having booked by now in Greece, Spain and now Portugal. This time the car was quite new, 15.000km and well maintained. The reservation went fast and same the check out. The only thing is that on return, half of petrol tank was invoiced with 64euro, which is absolutely expensive and not justified. A full refuel of that car was 80euro. Drivers pay attention to highway tolls! One way Porto to Albufeira is 43euro. I was aware about this and took the cost as the route is much faster.
AVOID THIS COMPANY!! I know the prices are cheap but they will rip you off! We just returned our car and there was a minor scratch on the hub cap. We were pretty sure it was there before but didn't have a picture to prove it so they charged us 600 Euro to fix it!! Worst part is they obviously don't fix the damages like this because the car had many other spots like this on other hub cabs. If you do rent with them be super meticulous, take photos and videos of the entire car before leaving, and make sure to buy insurance.
Worst Car Rental Experience Ever! I rented a Peugeot 308, and it turned out to be the worst car rental experience of my life. During the initial inspection, I unfortunately overlooked some minor scratches on the front right wheel, which ended up costing me a staggering 600 euros upon return. The employee, Paulo, was extremely unhelpful, and when I requested to discuss the situation with a higher-ranking manager, he refused, stating that "everything is in the contract and it's just business." The customer service was terrible, and I felt like they were just trying to rip me off. I've attached a photo of the damage so that other users can see how minor these scratches were. Beware and I do not recommend this company!
