Kindly and flexible Service...but nothing cost free
Waited for ages that's fine but the staff just wanted extra money for upgrades and better insurance. She was a bit rude at one point.
One star is too much I'm a top rewards member and the car I was given was a disgrace damage in every corner and the costumer service manager BRUNO wasn't helpful at all to try to resolve the issue when the second car I was given had visible damage too his answer was that's all we have and just walk away the employee for europcar that got our car was embarrassed for the way we where treated and kept apologizing to us I will be following up with europcar with emails and phone calls to make sure BRUNO the customer service manager gets sent to costumer service class to learn some manners and respect towards the customer. Besides that everyone else was very helpful and professional.
The car itself was good and everything was alright, but the service wasn't. The contracts that you have to sign are not in English, and the staff at the counter is not very patient. Prior to taking the rental car, I was shown a cost of filling up the tank, which the lady said was a deposit that I would get back when I returned the car with a full tank. This has been my experience with every other car rental before. This time with Europcar was different. I returned the car with a full tank, but they wouldn't initially give back my deposit, because apparently the Portugese contract said it wasn't a deposit after all, and I had already paid for the full tank in Gas. When I pointed out that I returned the car with a full tank, they initially said "sorry, you signed contract, no money, thank you for full tank, NEXT" (not literally, but you get the idea). They eventually "catered" to me by reimbursing some of my filled up tank with a pretty low petrol price, and after deducting a 15 EUR refilling fee. The refilling fee makes the least sense here... Wouldn't they need to fill it back up anyway if I returned the car with an empty tank? After all, I left with a sour taste, despite a great car and easy pick-up etc. So for those that are renting cars here: please check the fuel tank deposit, and make sure to empty that fuel tank as much as possible before returning it, because the fuel deposit isn't a deposit anyway according to the Portugese contract.
I had everything booked online, so I expected to just pick up the car. But the queues were massive: first for the paperwork, then to pick up the car. The good thing was the transfer service from the airport to the office. The lady who got my papers was rushing me to sign lots of papers and trying to push extras to hire. The car was easy to drive and comfortable, just didn't like the office part. When I drop off the car, I made a comment about the pick up and they were very supportive.
The worse service I had in an Europcar for long. Over 40 minutes to get a car pre-booked on their website. Too bad had. A number of great experiences with Europcar in other country in the past, but this one will likely make me change renter...
