Low prices, AWFUL costumer service, if you rely on English. Whenever I reached someone, they put me on hold after 2 seconds or just hung up.
Booked here because it was the best price of the 7 companies at the airport, that's where the good news ends. As mentioned in many of these reviews, the lines for both pick up and return were multiple HOURS long. That is not an exaggeration, we were 4th in line with a reservation and it took nearly 2 hours to get to the counter as the line grew behind us. Once I got to the counter the process took an additional 25 minutes. Despite having a reservation I had to provide all of my information (name phone, email address, etc) again which made it take longer. Shouldn't that already be in the system with a reservation? At the end of the long check in process I was told the car was getting washed and I should "go get a coffee" and come back...after waiting 2 hours at that point.... The staff, while polite, seemed indifferent to the huge line literally filling the concourse. One casually mentioned this is how it is on the weekends. Important to note that this company is the only company at PDL with multiple counter positions and was still incredibly backed up. None of the other companies had lines more than 5 customers at any one time. Below are pictures of the separate lines for pick ups and returns.
Very easy, straight forward handling of everything. Cars are very clean and at a fair rate. Returning the car could be handled faster if there would be more than one person responsible for the returns when there are several flights leaving at the same time.
Don't use this car rental! I would not recommend to anyone because of the following reasons: 1. When we picked up the car, it took a long time till we got the keys. 2. We booked a small car with manual and got a big one with automatic. That's not what we booked! 3. On the 2nd day they called us and told us that the car needs to be replaced because of "safety reasons". Obviously they just wanted their more expensive bigger car back. 4. When the guy came to change out the cars, it took more than 30min of our time because he didn't find the address of our apartment. 5. When we returned the car, there were lots of people waiting but only 1 person working. We almost missed our flight !!! No recommendation !
Friendly, easy, quick, I brought my car back dirty and they charged me 10EUR for it. Questionable of it is the best way, but I was happy because they were cheap and I had absolutely no problem. I would come again. I got the car early in the morning and have it back, maybe that helped for not having to wait or they did improve the people working there. It was definetly not written by hand.
The car was fine. Lines for picking up and dropping off the car are long and ridiculous. They are very slow. 1+ hours to pick up the car and 1.5 to drop off. Price is good though and the car was fine. They also charge a 1300 Euro deposit and get upset when you ask for proof that it will be refunded.
I feel bad giving a 1 star review because the rental company we dealt with on Faial were perfect, I will give them 5 stars. All of our issues are with the the station at Sao Miguel airport. They tried to charge us for our rental on arrival despite pre-paying it all. The desk operator was horrendous, going in a huff when we suggested we had already paid. They then tried to sell us additional insurance for 95 euros which we rejected. No issues with our car on return despite a 30 minute queue in the airport, we returned home to find a bill for 95 euros, despite not taking out the additional insurance. Multiple attempts at contacting the company failed, we will be going through our bank to get a refund, so very disappointing!
Check-in and Check-out were ok, no surprises when returning the car. Waiting time was as short as possible, but they had to serve more customers as the other rental companies. The car itself was a bit old, Ford Fiesta with more than 100.000 km, air-conditioning was not working properly and the car was already covered with scratches when we received it. However, at drop-off they only checked for big damages, it took not more than 2 minutes.
