The car was extremely moldy and the brakes did not work very well which is pretty dangerous in a place like Maidera. I reached out to Five rent a car. They said they'd "look into it and get back to me". They never got back to me.

Disappointing and Dangerous Car Rental Experience in Madeira I rented a car for a week in Madeira, and unfortunately, the experience was both disappointing and potentially dangerous. At the time of pickup, everything seemed fine, but on the first day, a warning light on the dashboard came on. I reported the issue to the rental company, but they told me not to worry about it. Soon after, I noticed a problem with the brakes, which quickly became very serious. Driving with faulty brakes on Madeira, an island full of steep hills and sharp descents, is extremely dangerous and put us at great risk. After reporting the issue via email, I was told, after more than 24h, that I could swap the car. When I went to exchange the car, I noticed a difference in the fuel level between the car I was returning and the new one. I was told I could return the new car on empty, which is impractical and risky since there are not many gas stations outside Funchal. I asked for a small discount of EUR50 to compensate for the fuel and inconvenience, but I was told I needed to speak with the manager. When I asked the employee to call the manager, I was told it would be better if I called myself because the manager wouldn't answer him. I tried to contact the main office, but a staff member answered, refused to identify himself, and didn't want to listen to my complaints, saying they had already done everything necessary and that I had to deal with it myself. To make matters worse, the replacement car was lower in terms of options and features, a clear downgrade. In summary, the service was poor, with unhelpful staff and completely inadequate problem management. The brake issue was extremely serious and put our safety at risk. I would not recommend this car rental company to anyone.

Great experience, communication and transparency. There were no extra fees after the booking was made. We got picked up at the airport. The staff was checking our flight details, so they knew when to pick us up and called us to arrange it. At their office we received a mint-condition and properly cleaned car. Afterwards we returned the car at the Funchal office, got 100EUR deposit back to the credit card in a matter of a few hours. You made a happy customer.

All you need from a car rental. We got a nice car, they picked us up from the airport on time, returning the car was easy, and we got the EUR100 deposit back in one day. When visiting Madeira again, I'll rent from the same place.

Super nice and convenient car rent without any worries but with with great prices and service. We've got picked up from the airport for a five minute drive to the office for papers sign and keys pickup, paid the exact amount we were informed while booking + 100 EUR deposid according to our car group type. The staff is very friendly and helpful as well! The car itself was totally great - very clean, everything worked smoothly and was just a perfect asset while discovering the island. While returning the car we've got our deposit back to our card and got driven to the airport. Thank you so much!

Very good company with perfect personnel. Guy met me near the airport, took to the company, 5min drive. Sign papers, gave keys and you can go. Price for 5 days was only 175EUR + 100EUR of deposit + 20EUR to insure windows. Car was clean and almost new, had 14000 km on odometer. After the rental period, I arrived back to them, they checked car, gave back 100EUR of deposit and took me to the airport. Will recommend them, as they have lower prices than other rental companies and new cars.

Great communication from the company's side, everything was prompt, fast and without any issues. We really enjoyed the island in our little Fiat 500. However - bit of an advice - if your wallet allows it go for a car with higher power as the island has quite a lot of steep roads.

Great company that doesn't try to sell you additional, expensive insurance or tries to charge you for already existing damage. Prices are very fair and they pick you up from the airport. We got a Fiat 500 cabriolet with very low mileage and great condition. Going up some of the steep hills was a challenge and reached the limits of the small engine but with enough patience and momentum we managed to get everywhere. Will definitely book again here when we come back one day!
